Belvedere Students Visit Dyke Marsh

On February 26, 2022, 50 very curious youngsters from Fairfax County’s Belvedere Elementary School, grades kindergarten through fifth grade, and many of their parents visited Dyke Marsh.

Their teacher, Andrea Auerbach, prepared a scavenger hunt flyer and they eagerly searched for signs of beavers, fallen logs, cattails and other treasures. They were especially awed by the bald eagle (Haliaeetus leucocephalus) nest near the Haul Road Trail which is very visible in winter before the leaves come out. An adult bald eagle stood watch near the nest.
